The Police in Lagos have arrested Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele, for defying the government’s COVID-19 lockdown order by hosting a house party.

Daily Trust reports that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government had last week ordered the total lockdown of FCT, Lagos and Ogun states to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

Police spokesman in the state, Bala Elkana, confirmed her arrest on Sunday, saying the actress is in custody of the Police’ State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba.

“Yes, we have (arrested) Funke Akindele and we are looking for the others. She has been taken to SCID,” Elkana said.

It was gathered that that policemen arrived Akindele’s residence at Amen Estate, located off Lekki-Epe Expressway, Lagos in about three patrol vehicles.

Daily Trust had earlier today also reported that the Nollywood actress came under public scrutiny for hosting a birthday party in honour of her husband, Abdulrasheed Bello aka JJC Skillz on Saturday.

The party, Daily Trust learnt, had in attendance ‘Tesumole’ crooner, Naira Marley, Eniola Badmus, among others.

Scores of Nigerians had on social media, especially Twitter berated Akindele, popularly called ‘Jenifa,’ for hosting such party amidst COVID-19 lockdown in the state.

However, Akindele later apologised over the incident via a Instagram post, saying most of those who attended the party were colleagues, who were living temporarily within the estate because of the COVID-19 lockdown.
