Police arrest father, stepmothers for chaining 11-year-old boy for 2 years

Police in Kebbi State, have arrested a father and three stepmothers of an 11-year-old child, who was alleged to have been chained and kept in an animal stall for two years.

The state command police spokesperson, DSP Nafi’u Abubakar, made this known on Monday in Birnin Kebbi, saying, the suspects were arrested on Sunday in Badariya quarters of the metropolis.

He further explained that the victim had been taken to the hospital for medical attention and noted that investigation had since commenced with a view to bringing the perpetrators of the crime to justice.

“The police have arrested the father of the 11-year-old child and his three wives, with whom he conspired to chain his child for over two years. Our men arrested the suspects on Sunday in Badariya area of Birnin Kebbi Local Government.

“The boy is at Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital as an investigation is still ongoing to unravel the circumstances behind chaining the boy in an animal stall for a period of two years,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kebbi State Government had pledged to settle the medical bill of the victim with a view to rehabilitee him.

The Special Adviser to Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu on Women and Social Development, Hajiya Zara’u Wali made this known in Birnin Kebbi.

“The bizarre story of the boy, who was chained alongside livestock and left to starve for the two years, came to the state government with great shock,” she said.
