Detectives attached to Kano State Police Command have arrested four persons for allegedly impersonating officials of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The police spokesman, S P Magaji Musa Majia who disclosed this on Wednesday in a press statement revealed that the suspects have over a long time been making arrests and extorting money from unsuspecting drug users in Kano metropolis and its environs.
Majia identified the suspects as Tijjani Usman aka O/c SARS of Kurna Qtrs Kano, Muhammed Musa Haruna aka Mo of Darmanawa Qtrs, Adamu Usman of Brigade Qtrs and Uzairu Bala of Ungogo LGA Kano.
He said “the four criminally conspired and formed a criminal gang posing as officers of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and going about different parts of the State making arrests and extorting money from unsuspecting members of the public.”
He said the suspects mainly operate within Badawa, Hotoro. Mariri, Farawa, Eastern Bye Pass Qtrs and Sabon Gari Market, Kano.
“They had defrauded many unsuspecting people of millions of naira” Majia said, adding that one Jincheng motorcycle, cash sum of N17,700, 2 Set of Police Uniforms, 1 handcuff, 4 sharp knives, 1 enlarged picture and some quantity of drugs were recovered from them during investigation.
He said that the suspects confessed to the crime and mentioned 5 other members of the syndicate who are currently at large adding that they would be charged to Court for prosecution as soon as investigation is completed.
