Police arrest ex-Kano anti-graft agency chair in Abuja

The police have arrested a former chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado.

He was said to have been arrested at the Sokoto Governor’s Lodge in Abuja where he was earlier screened yesterday as Kano governorship aspirant.

Rimingado had recently picked the PDP’s nomination and expression of interest forms for the Kano governorship election.

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje had, in July last year, suspended him over allegations of corruption in various contracts.

In a short message sent to the BBC Hausa Service yesterday, Rimingado said he had not been informed of the charges against him.

“No one has told me as to why I was arrested; no crime has been mentioned in the arrest warrant,” he said.

Our correspondents report that a police officer presented a document to Rimingado showing that a Magistrate’s Court in Kano ordered his arrest.

When contacted, the spokesperson of the FCT Police Command, Josephine Adeh, told Daily Trust that the politician was not arrested by the command.

She said it was officers from the Kano State Command that trailed him to Abuja to effect his arrest “as ordered via a warrant.”
