Police arrest ex-convict posing as military personnel in Akwa Ibom

The Akwa Ibom State police command has arrested a 35-year-old ex-convict, Eddiong Anthony Matthew, for impersonating a military officer with the rank of warrant officer.

The police public relations officer, ASP Timfon John, said in Uyo that the suspect was apprehended on Wednesday around 2pm dressed in partial military camouflage.

John disclosed that preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, an indigene of Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, had been involved in various crimes across the state while using the military uniform to deceive his victims.

 Recovered items from the suspect include a walkie-talkie, phones suspected to be stolen, a brown coverall dress and an RCC identity card.

John further noted that the commissioner of police, Waheed Ayilara, reaffirmed the command’s unwavering commitment to crime prevention in the state. She added that the suspect would be charged to court upon the completion of the investigation.
