Police in Kano yesterday confirmed the arrest of over 70 persons in connection with Thursday’s clash between supporters of Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso and those of a House of Representatives member, Abdulmumini Jibril Kofa.
Police spokesman in the state, DSP Haruna Abdullahi, told Daily Trust that Kofa was invited by the police for questioning.
He said two persons died, 20 campaign vehicles were burnt and 18 others were damaged during the clash.
“Rep Kofa was invited by the police for some clarifications. There are some allegations leveled against him and he needs to clarify them, hence the invitation,” he said.
He added that the police AIG Zone One, Kano and the Commissioner of Police visited the village yesterday for fact-finding.
Abdullahi warned that the police would not fold their arms watching a few individuals foment trouble in the state, adding that whoever is found wanting would be taken to court.
Supporters of Kwankwaso and Kofa clashed in Kofa town where five persons were earlier reported killed.
