Police arrest 7 suspected cultists in Edo

Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested seven suspects allegedly involved in cult-related activities with arms and animation in the state. 

The suspects, Promise Musa, 24, Lucky Adoga, 27, Joseph Osomhegbe, 34, John Limoh, 32, Japhet Otaru, 28, Toluwani Emmauel, 28, and Destiny Israel, 22, were arrested at various locations in the state.

The Police Commissioner, Umoru Ozigi, said the suspects were arrested following a clampdown on cultism due to recent cult killings in the state.

He said three of the suspects were arrested in Jattu and Okpekpe in Etsako West and East LGA with two locally made guns, three live cartridges and one axe.

He added that the four other suspects were arrested along Sakpoba road, Benin City, during s stop-and-search duty with two Pump Action guns, 43 live cartridges, two expended cartridges, and three wraps of substance suspected to be Indian Hemp.

He said the suspects confessed to being members of secret cults that had been terrorising the state, assuring that they would be charged in court.
