Police arrest 5 for abducting septuagenarian, collecting N7.9m

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested five suspects in connection with the kidnapping of a 70-year-old woman and the collection of a N7.9 million ransom.

City & Crime reports that the suspects were arrested by a crack squad attached to the Ughelli Area Command at a brothel in Ewu town in Ughelli South LGA.

The spokesman of the command, SP Bright Edafe, gave the names of the suspects as Dominic Uweru, alias Ovwolo (48); Isaac Oghenerukevwe, alias Plug (43); Oviri Godstime (25); Junior Sunday and Efedeki Adjovo.

He said the sum of N450,000 collected as ransom, were recovered from the suspects’ hideout.

Other items recovered from the suspects include one single-barrel gun, three locally made cut-to-size guns and wraps of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.

He said they confessed to kidnapping the septuagenarian on August 9, 2024, and releasing her on August 10, 2024, after collecting the sum of N7.9m.
