Detectives from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested 46 suspected members of the notorious Awawa cult group.
Members of the group have been terrorizing residents of Agege and environs in the past six months.
The latest arrest brought to 62, members of the group that have been arrested within the past three weeks.
State police spokesman, SP Damola Badmos, who confirmed the arrest, said the suspects were nabbed at about 4am on Saturday.
According to her, the detectives working on a tip-off raided Agidingbi and Agege areas of Lagos to make the arrests.
“During the raid, about 46 members of Awawa cult were arrested. The suspects have been transferred to the Lagos State Taskforce Office for prosecution. The state command wishes to state that the raid of criminal hideouts will be continuous to rid the state of criminal elements,” she added.
