The operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested 458 suspects allegedly involved in various crimes between January and December 2022.
Addressing journalists on the command’s achievements, the command’s spokesman, SP C. Nwanbuzor, said the suspects were arrested over alleged kidnapping, cultism, robbery, rape, and unlawful possession of firearms, among others.
He said the successes were recorded following the desire of the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Dankwara, to get rid of crime and criminality in the state.
“From January to December 2022, the command has recorded achievements against various violent crimes and other offences, including the arrest of suspects, rescue of victims, recovery of arms/ammunition, empty rifle magazines, empty ammunition shells, vehicles and tricycles.”

He said 102 suspects were arrested for kidnapping, robbery 65, cultism 193, defilement 16, ritualist two, arson two, IPOB/ESN one, while 77 were arrested for unlawful possession of arms within the period.
According to him, 68 kidnap victims were rescued while 58 suspected kidnappers and robbery suspects were killed within the period.
He said items recovered from the suspects include, AK-47 rifles, six, Beretta Pistol one, pump-action guns 11, locally made pistols 69, cartridges 176, live ammunition five, empty AK-47 magazines four, empty AK-47 ammunition 16, vehicles five and two tricycles.
