The Kano State Police Command has arrested 44 suspected armed robbers, drug dealers and thugs within the last 10 days of Ramadan during a patrol across the state’s metropolis.
The spokesman of the command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the arrest to newsmen on Thursday.
He said they were arrested by the team of Operation Restore Peace in the command’s efforts to rid the state of all forms of crimes and criminality, especially the menace of thuggery, drug abuse and other social vices.
The “clearance operations carried out by a team of Operation Restore Peace led by CSP Bashir Musa Gwadabe, the officer in Charge of the Anti-Daba Squad of the command during these last 10 days of the month of Ramadan, led to the arrest of 44 suspected thugs (‘yan daba) and drug dealers.

“All the suspects from various addresses within Kano Metropolitan were arrested with dangerous weapons, illicit drugs; they have robbed and stolen properties. The suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigation,” Kiyawa said.
He added that ahead of the preparation for the coming 2023 Eid-el Fitr Sallah celebrations, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Dauda, has warned that anyone found in possession of any weapon during the festive period will be arrested.
“He further called on all criminals to repent or leave the state completely. Otherwise, they will be arrested and face the full wrath of the law.
“He thanked the good people of Kano State for their continuous support, understanding, encouragement and cooperation.
“He urged residents to pray for the state, the nation and report incidences to the nearest police station, and not take law into their own hands.
“Rigorous patrol and raids of criminals’ hideouts and black spots will continue throughout the state, as the command will sustain the tempo in ensuring the safety of lives and properties,” he stated.
