The FCT Police Command says it has arrested four suspects allegedly operating as one-chance robbers in the capital city.
Daily Trust reports that the mode of operation of the robbers, according to the police, is for the criminals to disguise as commercial motorists and passengers, take unsuspecting passenger(s) and after driving for few metres, rob the passenger(s) of their belongings and then push them out of the moving vehicle.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Anjuguri Manzah, in a statement, yesterday, said operatives of the Command’s Anti-One Chance Squad arrested one Onyebuchi Ifeanyikwu, 40, and Anthony Sunday, 35, at their hideouts in Tungan Maje on November 10 following discreet investigation.
“The suspects robbed and inflicted injuries on a woman who boarded their car as a passenger en-route Nyanya from Arab road Kubwa on November 9 at about 0530hrs. Few minutes into the journey, the suspects diverted their victim to Zuba axis where she was robbed of her cash, phone, two ATM cards and other valuables before she was abandoned,” he said.
Manzah added that the same squad had earlier on November 2 arrested one Usman Ali and Sani Bala both 19-year olds who allegedly operated in a tricycle to rob unsuspecting members of the public.
“The suspects were arrested after one of their victims who was robbed by the gang at Gwarinpa axis complained to the police operatives who swung into action and arrested the above named suspects,” he said. He said the suspects would be arraigned as soon as investigations are concluded.
