Police arrest 33-year-old fake naval officer

Operatives of the 4 Special Forces Command, Doma, Nasarawa State, have apprehended a man for allegedly impersonating a Nigerian military officer.

The police public relations officer, Nasarawa State command, DSP Ramhan Nansel, in a statement on Saturday, identified the suspect as a 30-year-old Agbism Joseph.

The police image maker explained that the suspect was arrested on Thursday by the operatives and handed over to the command for investigation.

According to the statement, preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect purchased the military regalia/accoutrements from Lagos State to deceive unsuspecting members of the society.

He said the commissioner of police, Mr Adesina Soyemi, had ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to carry out an exhaustive investigation into the case to unravel other crimes that might have been committed by the suspect, adding that he would be charged to court for prosecution as soon as investigation into the case is completed.

He said the suspect, a native of Nasarawa Eggon but resides in Lafia and claimed to be working in Kogi State, was arrested by operatives of the 4 Special Forces Command at Doma market, Doma Local Government Area while he was putting on full military camouflage.

“Items recovered from the suspect are two sets of combat short knickers, a jack-knife, two identification cards of the Nigeria Merchant Navy carrying the name of the suspect, a belt and two mobile phones,” he said.
