Men of the police command in Ekiti State have arrested three persons, Ogunlusi Damilola, Olorinsola Segun and Sekoni Tunde, for allegedly attacking an 85-year-old man, Awe Taiwo Julius, on his farm who later died in the hospital.
The command’s spokesman, DSP Sunday Abutu, said, “On June 27, they entered a farm settlement at Ipole-Ekiti where one Awe Taiwo Julius was inflicted with serious injuries and 10 tubers of yam were carted away in the process.
“The 85-year-old victim later died while receiving treatment at the Ekiti State Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti.”
Abutu added that during interrogation, the suspects confessed that on July 12, at about 1700 hours they went to the complainant’s farm situated off Iyin-Ado Express Road, Iyin-Ekiti, attacked him with machetes and carted away some tubers of yam.”

He noted that the stolen yam tubers were recovered, while effort was ongoing to arrest fleeing members of the gang.
