The Plateau State Police Command has said that it has arrested three suspected “one-chance” robbers operating in Jos North and Jos South LGAs.
The spokesman of the command, DSP Alabo Alfred, said, “On the 29th of August, 2024, at about 2pm, the following suspects, Umar Abu, Peter Ezekiel and Kelvin Monday, were arrested at Rantya Roundabout while attempting to make away with the mobile phone of one of their victims.
“Upon interviewing the suspects, they all confessed to being members of a ‘one-chance’ syndicate which specialises in snatching people’s belongings around the Rantya axis. They also revealed that this incident was one of the many in which they hypnotised citizens and rob them of their belongings, especially mobile phones.
“The suspects further revealed that they lured their victims into boarding their tricycle under the pretence of being commercial riders, after which they eventually picked the targeted property without being spotted, until yesterday when the dice did not roll in their favour.”

One of the suspects said, “I joined this criminal activity because I was once a victim. The first time we went out, we succeeded, but during the second one, we were apprehended. Apart from that, I don’t have money and I have many children. That was why I called my friends to start this one-chance syndicate. “
