Over 220 suspects have been arrested by the police in Kano over various allegations including armed robbery, dealing in hard drugs, possession of dangerous weapons and violent thuggery among others.
Among the suspects were 8 armed robbers said to have been arrested after robbing a company in Kano metropolis of six laptops, two desktops, a 32 inch plasma television set among others.
The spokesman of the command DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa who paraded the suspects at the Bompai police headquarters disclosed that they were arrested during special raid of black spots and criminal hide outs by the police.
He said the raid was part of the command’s effort to rid the state of criminals and drug dealers and addicts.
He said the raid was conducted between March 29th and April 1st.
“In continuation of the command’s earlier pledge to rid the state of all forms crimes, raids of criminal hide outs and black spots were carried out between 29th march, 2019 to 1st April, 2019 across the state. The raid was to arrest the remnants of criminals moving about in the communities posing security challenges and threats among the good members of the public” DSP Kiyawa said.
He said some quantity of Indian hemp, suck-and-die and many other intoxicating drugs have been recovered from the suspects besides many dangerous weapons including knives and cutlasses.
Reiterating the resolve of the command to intensify campaigns against drug and substance abuse in the state, Kiyawa appealed to the public to always cooperate with the police in its effort to make the society habitable for all.
He said the suspects have all confessed to their respective crimes saying that the raid would continue until all criminally minded persons “either repent or arrested and brought before the law.”
He said all suspects would be charged to various courts for speedy prosecution.
