Two men have been arrested by Operatives of Rapid Response Squad after they allegedly attempted to rob two occupants of a vehicle in Iyana Ipaja area of Lagos State.

The suspects, Abbey Kolawole, 40 and Ikenna Eze, 30 and one Femi (now at large) had reportedly accosted two occupants of a vehicle with Femi, the alleged leader of the gang, ordering the occupants to alight from the vehicle while pointing a gun at them.

Eze said when the occupants refused to yield, “He (Femi) shot into the air and threatened to shoot them. He was attempting to fire the second shot when the locally made double barrel gun hooked.”

It was gathered that by this time, the residents of the area had emerged to see what was happening and the suspects fled in different directions abandoning the gun.

While the leader of the gang escaped, both Kolawole and Eze were apprehended by residents, whose fence the suspects attempted to scale. They were subsequently handed over to officers of the Rapid Response Squad, who had intercepted a distress call of robbery in the area.

In his statement to the police, Eze said Femi invited him and Kolawole to assist him attack one of the occupants of the vehicle.

He said the attack was meant to be a retaliatory one as Femi accused one of the occupants of the vehicle of allegedly planning to kill him (Femi).

“Femi was the one who knew the road, he escaped while we, strangers in that community were arrested,” Eze added.

Recovered from the suspects were a locally made double barrel cut to size shot gun, three live cartridges and one expended cartridge.

Commenting on the development, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Hakeem Odumosu, thanked members of Shagari Estate, Ipaja for cooperating with the police in the arrest of the suspects.
