The Lagos State Police Command has busted an illegal military camp in the Ogudu area of the state and arrested 107 trainees and their leader.
The state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, while parading the suspects at the command’s headquarters in Ikeja, on Wednesday, said military camouflage, badges, different ranks, signboards, and identity cards were recovered from them.
He said a further search at the camp led to the recovery of recruitment letters, promotion letters and portrait of the leader, one Sunday Dakare, identifying himself as the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), two motorcycles, Plasma Television, three cutlasses, charms and others.
He said the suspects claimed to be recruiting for Nigeria Merchant Navy which had been outlawed by the federal government.
“This trend portends danger for our nation and a threat to peace and security and that of the state in particular. It behoves us as a law enforcement agency to enforce such a law banning activities of the illegal military outfit.
“I want to use this medium to warn other individuals or groups still operating such an illegal outfit in any part of the state to close it forthwith,” he added.
