The accused, Chukwudi James, was alleged to have conspired with others, now at large, to rob occupants of a Volkswagen Golf vehicle of the sum of N59 million at gun point along Abaji-Lokoja highway, Abuja on October 1, 2013.
In the three-count charge brought by prosecuting counsel Prisca Oguamalam, the accused person was said to have also robbed one Ernest Akpabio, an occupant of the vehicle, of a Nokia handset valued at N20, 000.
The accused person, however, denied the charges, explaining that as a school leaver he came to Abuja in search of employment. He said his parents are deceased and he now stays with a guardian in Kuru, Jos, Plateau State.
Justice Musa Othman ordered that the accused person be remanded in Kuje Prison and further directed that his guardian be contacted to assist him with legal representation.
The case was adjourned to January 28, 2014 for hearing.
