Police arraign 8 guards over alleged N1m cable loss

The accused, all of Kubwa, were charged for negligent conduct, an offence that contradicts Section 196 of the Penal Code.
The police prosecutor, Lukas Ephraim, told the court that the complainant, UchennaNwanze of Phase 4, reported at the Kubwa Police Station, on January 4, how he entrusted a drum of armoured cable valued at N1m to the accused, who he employed as security guards to safeguard his property.
He said the accused however failed to take proper custody of the items, and as a result, they were stolen.
When the charges were read to the accused, they pleaded not guilty and were granted bail in the sum of N200,000 each by the judge, Mohammed Marafa, with one reasonable surety, who must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction.
The case was adjourned to February 24 for hearing.
