Police allegedly torture 20-year-old lady to death in Karu

A policeman Alpha Lamurde has allegedly tortured 20-year-old, Bilkisu Ummi Isa to death.

The incident happened on Calvary Road by Bola Police Outpost in Maraba, Karu Local Government of Nasarawa State.

Isa was alleged to have been tortured for a whole day and was granted bail when she started vomiting blood on Sunday.

Her brother, Zakariya Isa, said, her former boyfriend called Abdul was alleged to have stolen N1.4 million in the Car Dealership Center where he was working for a Lebanese Man, Jafar in Maitama, Abuja and absconded.

He said that, the friend of the runaway Abdul mentioned her name when he too was tortured.

Zakariya Isa said that the police arrested, beat and hit her head on the wall, and later called her parent to take her when it was realised that she was fainting.

But according to a friend of the deceased, Rukayya Muhammad, “A youth called Jibrin and a vigilante popularly called Master was alleged to have been commissioned to trace the suspect, Abdul, when he could not do so, he brought some vigilante to invite me as a friend of the deceased and the deceased to Calvary Road Police Station.

“The Inspector slapped, flogged and hit Bilkisu, but he gave me his number, that he like me, he spared me, told me to call him to meet him in a hotel and gave me his GSM number 07065743117. When I used a Truecaller, it gave his name as Alpha Lamurde, while his WhatsApp bears his picture.

“When I told him that she has fainted, he poured water on her. We were arrested and bailed by our parents on Monday. Bilkisu died on Sunday,” said Rukayya.

Malama Hadiza Isa who is the mother of the deceased said, ” I am appealing for support from the general public for those that led to the death of the lady to be brought to justice.”

The Police Public Relations Officer in Nasarawa State Police command, ASP Ramhan Nansel said, “The command is not aware of this incident but, we will investigate” he said.

But he later said, ” The above story is not the truth. I just spoke with the DPO now. The incident happened in a car dealership in Maitama Abuja, The Abdul in question took the ATM card of his boss who so much believed and trusted him then, ran to Calvary road.

“The Lady in question was also in the house when the police stormed the house. When the case was reported, police swung into action and arrested his friend who was accommodating the suspect, a search was conducted where the said ATM card and other valuables belonging to the suspect’s boss were recovered from his house.

“The DPO told me that, when rumours started filtering into his ears, he contacted the parents of the lady and they confirmed to him that the lady has been sick for long. The lady was neither detained nor tortured as claimed” said ASP Nansel.

When contacted on this number, 07065743117 the policeman said he doesn’t know anything about the allegation.

He later called and warned, “Journalists should learn how to do their work the right way.”
