Almajiri

life seemingly forgotten in gorge.

prey of a hush civilization

a child of deistic jaunt,

deserted by home and belief

hero of comfortable streets

trapped in poverty and naiveté

lurking in burg like night’s

flies in sally.

dirt in our husk of history

empty with dreamless dawns

smiles with spurious squint

their empty bowl panting

for drop of flakes.

hawking blight like valiants

crumb of degrade vigour

purblind out of school by bogus rites

in every clock, they’re rags tags

in the season of 19 crowns

in our age of unwinding tragedy

like a seed dispersed,

he took the unknown crown

to our segmented turfs

the child we fear carries

our horror around.

Meshak is a poet, Author, Spoken Words artist, playwright, Teacher, social commentator, activist  and freelance editor based in Jos.
