Some youths from the Middle Belt region extraction of the country, on Wednesday, raised the alarm that some Nigerians are plotting to malign the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.
The youths, under the aegis of the Middle Belt Youths Forum (MBYF), specifically alleged that N10bn has been earmarked by some disgruntled individuals to be spent on a media campaign against the apex bank boss.
According to a statement by the leader of the group, Godwin Meliga, the youths said there were plans to use the media and Civil Society Organisations to tarnish Emefiele’s image.
“We are aware of an ongoing highly-financed plot to use the media and CSOs to smear Emefiele’s name. Our investigation revealed that the plot is to damage Emefiele’s name and bully him from accepting to run for the presidency.
“We, therefore, advise the media, individuals and groups to be wary of selfish individuals who may want to enlist them into the unpopular, inhuman and useless campaign that is meant to bully one of Nigeria’s and Africa’s best from the race that requires his expertise.
“We also urge Dr Emefiele not to be scared or distracted by this campaign that is destined to fail from conception,” the statement read.
