Please minister, pay the SPWP beneficiaries

Permit me a space to draw the attention of the Minister of State, Ministry of Labour and Productivity on the delay in the payment of Special Public Works Programme (SPWP) stipends three months after the exist of the programme.

The federal government engaged 774, 000 youths across the country into its special works programme as part of its measures to cushion the effect of the COVID-19 on them.

President Muhammadu Buhari graciously approved the payment N60,000, which is  the three months stipends for each of the beneficiaries.

However, in spite of the directive to the  NDE to ensure fraud-free payment, 99 per cent of the participants are yet to receive their first payment. Though the minister attributed the delay in the payment to only two banks and assured it will be paid before the second payment, nothing has been done two months after.

We passionately appeal to the honourable minister to intervene and ensure these approved stipends are immediately paid as directed by Mr President.
