Rivers United’s unbeaten run finally came to an end on Sunday after they were beaten 1-0 by Plateau United in the 2022 Nigeria Professional Football League Week 11 fixture played at the New Jos Township stadium.
It was a double blow for Rivers United as apart from ending their unbeaten run, Plateau United’s victory paved the way for Remo Stars to reclaim the summit of the table.

Former MFM man, Jesse Akila’s strike in the 33rd minute was enough for Plateau United to end Rivers United unbeaten run since the beginning of the season.
In Ikenne, Remo Stars halted 3SC’s winning streak by a lone goal scored in the 62nd minute by captain Junior Nduka from a beautiful 25 yards free-kick.
3SC had won three matches consecutively against Kwara United 2-1 in Ibadan, MFM 1-0 in Lagos and Heartland 4-0 at home.
Apart from storming back to the top of the table, Remo Stars are now the only team that is yet to taste defeat in the ongoing NPFL season.
At the Akure township stadium, Sunshine Stars suffered back to back defeats after they were beaten 1-0 by former African champions Enyimba.
Enyimba’s goal came in a bizarre manner in the 47th minute when Sunshine Stars goalkeeper Mustapha Lawal’s attempted clearance from a back pass came off the back of Victor Mbaoma and into the net.
In Lagos, MFM’s winless run continued as they were forced to a goalless draw by reigning champions Akwa United, Rangers who lost 0-1 at home to Plateau United in week 10 picked a point at Wikki Tourists after a 0-0 draw just as Samad Kadiri who joined the fray in the 66th minute scored five minutes later to hand Kwara United a 1-0 win over his former club Lobi Stars.
At the MKO Abiola stadium Abuja, Niger Tornadoes continued with their resurgence as they subdued hard fighting Katsina United 2-1 with all three goals coming in the first half of the match.
Ahmadu Liman opened the scoring for Tornadoes in the 20th minute, Shamsudeen Hashim doubled the lead four minutes later before Faisal Sani scored United’s consolation goal in the 42nd minute.
Meanwhile, the final match of week 11 will be played today in Owerri between relegation-threatened Heartland and Gombe United.
