The Plateau State Internal Revenue Service (PSIRS), on Tuesday, said it has generated N22 billion, far above the N16bn target for this year.
The PSIRS’s chairman, Dashe Arlat, while briefing newsmen in Jos, said in the first quarter, the house generated N7.2bn; in the second quarter, it generated N2.1bn while in the third quarter, it collected N7bn, with the total at N16bn.
He noted that in the second quarter, the revenue was low due to the COVID-19 pandemic when businesses were shut down.
The chairman further said exceeding the target by the revenue house was achieved through the application of strategies such as; enhancement of data collection and aggressive enforcement on defaults across the state to ensure that it met the year’s revenue target.
He, however, said the service recognised the suffering of businesses across the state and quickly introduced ‘palliative tax relief’ measures to help mitigate the adverse effects of the COVID-19 on businesses.
Arlat said the service had also extended the timeline for filing annual revenue returns, waived penalties, granting a 1% bonus to all taxpayers, and reduced taxes payable by informal sector businesses by 50 per cent among others.
