There was rowdiness and a short altercation between security agents and youths at polling unit 027, Unguwan Abuja Tudun Wada II in Jos North local government area of Plateau State when mobile police officers attempted to disperse youths from the voting area.
Our correspondent, who was at the polling unit, observed that the youths insisted that they were by law, allowed to wait till the end of collation as long as they were orderly.
Polling unit 027 with 1,297 registered voters is one of the three polling units in Jos North where elections were cancelled and a supplementary election is taking place today.
However, the youth leader of the community, Kefas Mwanret Dagin, who was at the polling unit and trying to mediate between the youths and security agents, told journalists that nerves were high but the youth leadership was working to calm the situation.
Kefas said the adhoc staff had arrived the polling unit on time and the election had been peaceful until security agents attempted to disperse youths who were waiting to guard their votes.
“The youths are not happy with the security agents coupled with what happened in the previous elections where security agencies came and intimidated the youths even when they were not violent,” he said.
