Imam Abdullahi, the heroic Islamic cleric, who risked his life to shield 262 Christians in his mosque, during an attack on Yelwa Gindi Akwati village of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State in 2018 was among the 447 recipients of the National Honours conferred on them by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Islamic cleric was honoured for his selfless service to humanity during the 2022 national honours award event in Abuja.

He earned his place on the list when he risked his life on June 23, 2018, to protect Christians from attackers, who launched an onslaught on them.

Not less than 262 Christians were sheltered by the Imam in his mosque and his home, where he stood outside the doors, confronting the attackers.

Lengmang said, “We acknowledge his heroic contribution to humanity, which earned him this prestigious national honour. And this is an opportunity to call on the good and peace-loving people of Plateau State to emulate the character of Imam Abdullahi and unite towards building a peaceful and prosperous Plateau.”
