Community members in Jos North-North in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State have met to identify some of the issues that cause crisis in their areas and proper solutions.

The one-day peace parley, organised by the member representing Jos North-North in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Ibrahim Baba Hassan, was meant to have a heart-to-heart discussion among the people of the community.

Benue/Plateau correspondent, who was at the event, reports that those who attended the parley included community and religious leaders.

Dr. Elias Nankap Lamle, in his keynote address, noted that the major cause of the lingering crisis in Jos is the inability of the relevant stakeholders to identify the gangs that often perpetrate the crisis and incorporate them into the peace process, stressing that unless they are identified, the situation would not change.

He said: “The society looks at those gangs as irrelevant but they are very significant in the peace process. They are found in every community in Jos. They control the crisis in their domains and can be used to bring peace.”

Earlier in his address, Hon. Hassan condemned the recent killings in his constituency, noting that they were acts of few miscreants.

He said: “As a member representing you, I feel it is important to bring relevant stakeholders to see the best way we can build peace within our various communities. Our duty here is to offer sincere suggestions and defined follow-up strategies that will bring back lasting peace within Jos North-North constituency and other parts of the state.’’
