Abductors of the paramount ruler of Gindiri, HRH, Charles Mato Dakat, are demanding N500million ransom before the release of the abductee.

The abductors said the victim was in good condition.

HRH Dakat was abducted in the early hours of Sunday after the kidnappers had demolished part of the fence of his house and broke the window to his room.

Two days after the incident, his whereabouts was not known but on Tuesday, a source from the traditional council told newsmen that the abductors broke the silence and spoke to some members of the traditional council through the phone of the paramount ruler.

The source said: “Yes, we were able to communicate with them. It was the paramount ruler who first called and spoke to us.

“Thereafter, the abductors equally talked to us using the phone of the paramount. They told us that the paramount ruler was being treated well and was okay and that they didn’t have the intention of harming him but all they were demanding was the sum of N500 million for his release. That is all I can tell you for now.”

Major Ishaku Takwa, the spokesman of the Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), a multi-security task force maintaining peace in the state, had on Sunday confirmed the monarch’s abduction and assured that the troops of the operation had been mobilised to the area and had been on the trail of the kidnappers.

Also, the spokesman of the State Police Command, ASP Ubah Gabriel, confirmed the kidnap on Sunday, assuring that the police tactical team had been deployed to arrest the perpetrators.

They could not, however, confirm the ransom demand by the kidnappers.
