Plans are on top gear to fly former Vice President, Dr Alex Ekwueme overseas for further treatment, according to a family source.

A family source said Wednesday that arrangements were almost concluded
to fly him outside the country in an air ambulance to continue his treatment as  his condition had not improved since last Saturday he slumped after which he was rushed to the Memfys International hospital, Enugu.

Ekwueme was said to have collapsed in his Enugu residence on Saturday night and rushed to the hospital. At the time of filing in this report, the cause of his present health situation was unknown.

It was gathered that at the hospital yesterday, many visitors trooped in and out, although nobody was allowed access to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) where he is being attended to.

However, the Minister of health was said to have sent a delegation to ascertain his health situation with the aim of flying him abroad.

Although the identities of the delegation was not established, it was gathered that the inability of improvement in his condition elicited the move to fly him abroad.

Ekwueme celebrated his birthday last month.

Officials of the Memfys Hospital for Neurosurgery, Enugu have vowed not to talk to newsmen on the present health challenge of former Vice President, Dr Alex Ekwueme who is currently in the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital.

Newsmen who visited the hospital yesterday (Wednesday) to ascertain his likely condition were not giving access to any useful information as the hospital personnel kept sealed lips, and asked the journalists to go to Ekwueme’s family members if they needed any information on his state of health. “Ekwueme is our patient. We can’t comment on his state of health. Go to his family members,” the officials said point-blank.
