Pipelines explosion: Youths protest, give NNPC ultimatum

The youths of Osisioma Local Government Area of Abia State under the aegis of Osisioma Ngwa Youth Congress, protested today at NNPC depot in Osisioma.

They were demanding for explanation regarding what they termed “negligence of NNPC” which they claimed, led to the explosion and death of over 50 people in Umuimo and Umuaduru communities.

The youths who matched the street in good number, could not see the depot manager, but insisted that the NNPC must reverse their earlier news report were they linked the explosion to vandals.

The protesters with placards are mourning the death of their loved ones who died in the explosion which occurred in the early hours of Friday.

They stormed the NNPC Aba branch, located along old expressway, Osisioma, blocking the entrance with Casket.

The aggrieved protesters later blocked the ever busy Enugu to Port Harcourt expressway at Osisioma junction.

Speaking to Daily Trust, the spokesman of the group, Mr Nwabueze Princewill, warned that the youths were giving NNPC 24 hours to reverse the press statement which claimed the explosion was caused by vandals.
