The Nigeria Football Federation president, Amaju Pinnick has summoned a meeting with the technical committee over the Super Eagles awful performance against the Lone Stars of Sierra-Leone in Friday’s AFCON qualifying series.
The meeting held Saturday morning in a bid to find out how the team were unable to maintain the four-goal lead with the game ending 4-4.
Pinnick, however, has charged the players to put the disappointment behind them and be ready to give their all and redeem their image in Freetown on Tuesday.
It will be recalled that the Eagles squandered a four-goal advantage at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City to delay their qualification for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations.
The visitors made a spirited fightback to tie the game 4-4 on the evening to the astonishment of Nigerians who expected more from the Gernot Rohr boys.
Alex Iwobi scored twice as Victor Osimhen and Samuel Chukwueze both struck to give the host a comfortable lead.
The Super Eagles fell short in their defence and conceded one in the first half as well as three others in the second half to share the lot.
Nigerian Fans showed great anger and disappointment in the performance of the team and the Captain has assured victory when they travel to Free Town.
Meanwhile, Captain Ahmed Musa has rendered an apology on behalf of the entire Super Eagles squad.
“This has been a real shocker. I want to, on behalf of the entire team, apologise to the generality of Nigerians for this poor result. We will go to Freetown and do the needful,” he said.
