…As Akwa United, Abia Warriors draw with Sunshine, Dakkada
The quartet of Kano Pillars, Nasarawa United, Wikki Tourists and Lobi Stars recorded slim home victories in the 2021/2022 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Week 8 matches played yesterday across the country.
At the Ahmadu Bello stadium Kaduna, Kano Pillars compounded the woes of fellow strugglers, MFM of Lagos with a 1-0 victory. Pillars’ goal was scored by Yusuf Maigoro in the 43rd minute when he stabbed home the ball from close range.
It was back to back victories for Wikki Tourists of Bauchi who appear to have been shocked to life by the 0-1 home loss to Remo Stars. Buoyed by their 1-0 victory at Dakkada, the Kabiru Dogo tutored lads returned home to defeat neighbours, Plateau United 2-1 in the highly explosive match.
An own goal by Salisu Adamu in the 21st minute handed the visitors the lead which lasted for four minutes only as former Sunshine Stars man, Fuad Ekelojuobi, restored parity for the hosts in the 25th minute before Anas Yusuf grabbed the winner in the 64th when he squeezed in the ball from a difficult angle.
At the Aper Aku stadium Makurdi, Onuwa Chukwu, was the hero as his solitary strike in the 79th minute was all Lobi Stars needed to beat his former team. With just over 10 minutes to play, his shot was poorly handled by Ojo Olorunleke in goal for Enyimba.
It was heartbreak for Katsina United at the Lafia township stadium where Nasarawa United struck at the death to deny them at least a point.
Although the match was heading for a draw, Shammasu Mohammed popped up with a powerful strike in the 90th minute to break the hearts of the visitors.
In Uyo, reigning champions Akwa United were forced to a 0-0 draw by Sunshine Stars just as the tie between Abia Warriors and Dakkada ended in a 1-1 draw.
Week 8 matches will continue today in Port-Harcourt and Gombe where second placed Rivers United host the whipping team, Heartland while Gombe United tread tackles with Niger Tornadoes at the Pantami stadium.
