Kano Pillars have stormed out of the murky waters of relegation after a commanding 3-1 win at Remo Stars in one of the NPFL week 30 matches played yesterday.

Against the run of play, Mark Daniels put Pillars ahead in the 15th minute, Auwalu Ali Malam doubled the visitors’ lead in the 35th minute before Remo Stars’ Ibrahim Yusuf pulled one back for the hosts in the 40th minute.

Auwalu then grabbed his brace in the 52nd minute to take the match beyond Remo Stars who succumbed to their 10th loss of the season.

Following losses suffered by Abia Warriors, Katsina United and Niger Tornadoes’ abandoned match with Lobi Stars, Pillars have moved from 16th to 13th position with 38 points from 30 matches.

However, they will drop down again, if Katsina United win the protest against them and the match in Kaduna is concluded in favour of Niger Tornadoes.

Elsewhere, it rained goals at the New Jos stadium as Plateau United pummelled Rangers 4-0. Mohammed Zulkifilu hit a first half brace before Chimezie Izuchukwu and Sunday Anthony scored a goal each in the second half to complete the rout of the ‘Flying antelopes’.

In Aba, Enyimba laboured to win 3-2 against 10-man Nasarawa United, Sunshine Stars turned back Katsina United 2-0 in Akure, Kwara United’s Samad Kadiri scored from the spot in the 35th minute for ‘Afonja Warriors’ to beat Akwa United 1-0 in Ilorin while Heartland also eased their relegation worries with a 3-1 win against 3SC in Owerri.

Relegation-threatened Dakkada came short against Rivers United who beat them 3-2 in Uyo, Wikki Tourists edged Abia Warriors 1-0 in Bauchi just as MFM continued their gradual but steady movement away from relegation with a convincing 3-1 win against Gombe United in the early kick-off in Ijebu-Ode.
