Kano Pillars lose yet again as Rivers Utd drop points

It has gone from bad to worse for Kano Pillars as they fell 3-2 to Abia Warriors in the early fixtures of the Match Day 34 of the 2021/22 Nigeria Professional Football League season at the Okigwe Township Stadium.

The home team got to the perfect start in the third minute when Paul Samson broke the deadlock from Njoku Augustine’s 7th assist of the season.

Stunned by the early goal, Kano Pillars made quick incursions into their opponents’ half and were duly rewarded for their efforts in the 26th minute through Ifeanyi Kelvin who levelled the score as Abia Warriors conceded their 12th goal at home this season.

With the aim to move far away from the relegation zone, Warriors led for the second time in the game through Emmanuel Onu who exquisitely dispatched the ball beyond the reach of Joshua Enaholo.

Not done, the industrious Godwin Obaje got his name on the score sheet in the 70th minute to make it 3-1 and with time winding down, Pillars got a second in a text-book fashion. Rabiu Ali’s pass over the top with the outside of his boot is finished brilliantly by Auwalu Ali Malam.

But that was not enough for Pillars as the game ended 3-2.

In the other games played, table leaders, Rivers United dropped two points after playing out a 0-0 draw with Enugu Rangers.

Rivers who prior to this game led the table with 10 points but will hope to see closest challenger, Plateau United also drop points today.

Also, Heartland FC took a step to battle their way out of the drop zone with a slim 1-0 win over Katsina United.

Chukwudi Nwaodu had converted from the spot just before the first half ended to score his eighth goal of the season.

In the last game of the day, Jimmy Abdul’s strike was enough as Niger Tornadoes defeated Nasarawa United 1-0.

Meanwhile, actions continues today when Dakkada FC hosts Akwa United while Lobi Stars will be guests to Remo Stars.

Kwara United will welcome Sunshine Stars in Ilorin just as Shooting Stars will take a long trip to Bauchi to face Wikki Tourists.

Plateau United will attempt to reduce the deficit at the top of the table when they play hosts to Gombe United while MFM will once again attempt to wriggle itself out of the drop zone when they host Enyimba.
