Speaking to Weekly Trust in Abuja on the performance of the team in the first stanza of the 2012/2013 Nigeria Professional Football League season, the chairman said Pillars who are currently leading the table would retain the league title.
He said with the unwavering support from the state government, Pillars is the best sponsored team in the country and the players are well motivated to win the league back to back.
Abba Yola explained that Pillars is the only team in the country that flies its players to away matches and stay for like two to three days before playing their games.
He said sometimes the team stays back for up to two days for the players to recover before flying back to their base.
The chairman also said Pillars is the only team in the league that pays double bonus for away wins saying he recently directed that the players should be paid winning bonus for the draw against Dolphins in Port-Harcourt.
Yola maintained that all these are possible because of the unflinching support that the team is enjoying from governor Kwankwaso who is ever ready to approve all the requests of the team.
His words: “We owe our outstanding performance to His Excellency, the governor of Kano State, Dr. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso who has been very very supportive of the team and the management itself. It is even part of the support that he re-constituted the board of Pillars FC headed by me and other veteran sports administrators in kano.
“Just last two weeks, the governor gave the team a brand new bus as part of motivation so we don’t really have any cause not to deliver. We are ready to pay the players their sign on fees as well as transfer fees for players we have recruited.
“Kano Pillars don’t go by road to play away matches. We fly the players. You can see we are making sure the players perform and sustain what they are doing. They normally spend three days when we are playing away. This may be very unusual among other clubs”.
