Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, has released pictures of his teammates sleeping on chairs at a Libyan airport.
Following Libya’s 1-0 loss to Nigeria in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on Friday, both teams were expected to face off again in Benina, their fourth Group D match.
The Super Eagles had departed for Libya on Sunday afternoon, but according to reports from the camp of NFF, an hour to landing at Benghazi, their destination, the Nigerian aircraft was diverted to Al Abraq, a city which is more than two hours drive from Benghazi.
The unexpected diversion left players and officials stranded without any assistance from the Libyan Football Federation, which failed to provide transportation.

In a post via X on Monday morning, Troost-Ekong condemned the treatment after he and his teammates were stranded for over 12 hours at Al Abaq Airport in Libya.
While describing the situation as “disgraceful,” he accused the Libyan authorities of playing “mind games.”
According to him, the team is being kept in an abandoned airport with no access to food, drink, or phone connections.
“12+ hours in an abandoned airport in Lybia after our plane was diverted whilst descending. Libyan government rescinded our approved landing in Benghazi with no reason. They’ve locked the airport gates and left us without phone connection, food or drink. All to play mind games.
“I’ve experienced stuff before playing away in Africa but this is disgraceful behaviour,” the post read in part.
In a follow up post, the Super Eagles captain shared photographs showing the players stranded at the airport.
