The 5th annual Irewha cultural hunting festival in Shafa-Abakpa community, Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State took place on Tuesday.
The hunting festival which is observed yearly by the Irewha people, has its origin in Ikaka.
One of the founding fathers of the community, Ikaka, was said to be a great hunter, renowned for his great skills and bravery in hunting. As such, he was said to be given the nickname ‘Ada-Ugbe’.
At the festival, individuals of different ages, dressed in traditional hunting attire, carrying locally crafted firearms on their shoulders. Their black hunting clothing complements their painted faces.

Amidst the echoes of Egbura traditional songs, the youth filed out from the bush to the playground. They rhythmically stamped their feet on the dusty ground, proudly showcasing their catches.
