PHOTOS: How Lagos Muslims celebrate Maulud

As the world marked this year’s birthday of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be Upon Him), Muslims in Lagos State turned up in their numbers to celebrate the joyous period.

The Prophet Muhammad, according to many scholars, was believed to have been born on the 12th day of the Islamic lunar month of Rabiul Awwal.

To Muslims who celebrate Maulud, particularly adherents of Sufi orders, the period offers opportunity to display their faith, devotion and love for the Prophet.

During such period, the faithful usually organise public processions and preaching sessions where Qur’an and other books that eulogise and extol the virtues of the Prophet are recited and interpreted.
