Phone snatchers stab man to death in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has arrested three suspected phone snatchers for allegedly stabbing Muhammad Sulaiman of Sharada quarters and robbing him of his mobile phone at Yahaya Gusau street.

The suspects, Hussaini Malami, 17, Harisu Manniru, 20, and Hussaini Abubakar, 19, all reside at Zawaciki quarters, Kumbotso Local Government Area.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the victim was stabbed with a knife on Sunday night and was rushed to Murtala Muhammed General Hospital where he was confirmed dead.

Kiyawa said on the same date, police received another report that hoodlums attacked Kingsley Sunday of Panshekara quarters, Kano.

He said the hoodlums stabbed Sunday with a knife on his shoulder and forehead and took away his mobile phone.

The victim was also rushed to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, where he was treated and discharged.

He said upon receipt of the reports, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko, instructed teams of detectives led by SP Suleiman Ibrahim to arrest the culprits.

He said following credible intelligence, the team arrested the suspects, adding that a knife with blood stains and the handset of one of the victims were recovered from them.

“On preliminary investigation, the suspects confessed to have conspired and attacked Kingsley Sunday, stabbed him on his shoulder and forehead, and made away with his mobile phone. The suspects are giving useful information.

“The Commissioner of Police ordered that the case be transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department of the command for discreet investigation, after which the suspects will be charged to court for prosecution,” Kiyawa added.
