Pharmacist tortured to death as 3 escape from bandits in Kaduna

A pharmacist, simply identified as Chinedu, who was among 15 people abducted on May 8, from Iddah community in Kagarko LGA of Kaduna State has died from torture.

City & Crime earlier reported how gunmen raided Iddah along the Bwari-Jere highway in the night of May 8, and abducted the victims from a viewing centre while they were watching a Champions League match during which two residents were shot dead.

The Village Head of Iddah, Danlami Jaye, told our reporter during a phone interview yesterday that the news of the killing of the pharmacist was conveyed by three other victims who escaped and arrived in the village on Saturday night.

He said the three victims were able to escape after their abductors engaged them to cut their fingernails, giving each of them a razor, explaining that the bandits re-tied them but forgot to collect the razors, and that the victims used the razors to cut the ropes they were tied with.

He further said that the development came at a time the kidnappers were insisting on collecting a N50m ransom from the relatives of the victims.

The chief lamented that some motorcyclists were always seen conveying bags of rice, among other items, to the bandits’ dens unchallenged.

The Kaduna State police spokesman, ASP Mansur Hassan, didn’t respond to a text message sent to his contact about the development.
