The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has slammed attempts by politicians to cause confusion among Christians over the newly created office titled Directorate of Politics and Governance of the Redeemed Christain Church of God (RCCG).
The Fellowship says it is its idea that member churches should create political units to encourage believers to actively participate in the democratic process.
This was contained in a statement signed by Kolade Segun-Okeowo the PFN’s Deputy-Director, Directorate of Politics and Governance in Ogun State.
In the statement, the group said it was bemused by the thoughts in some quarters who have muted that the Church created the Directorate of Politics and Governance in order to support the political aspirations of certain persons.
PFN says further that it expected such backlash from professional politicians who, because of their interest in 2023 “might begin to exhibit unnecessary jittery over such moves by a church that is seen to be a home base for The Vice President.”
The PFN says establishing the directorate was a product of over one decade of pleas and agitations by well-meaning members of the church including my humble self-requesting for the creation of such a department in the church.
The group said those saying the church should not encourage members to get involved in the democratic process is “a dead assertion that no one should make again.”
PFN maintained that the Church, being an integral part of the society, “has got more than enough reasons to get involved in the process that governs the society it has contributed so much to build.”
The PFN statement insist the RCCG’s creation of the directorate was a brainchild of the PFN and not necessarily to promote an individual’s political aspirations.
