People with disability sensitised on corruption

People with disabilities in Kano state have been sensitised on the menace of corruption by a Centre for Citizen with Disability (CCD) with a view to preparing them to contribute their quota in the fight against the menace.

The meeting also seeks to receive inputs from the participants in order to fashion out the best possible strategy on how to fight corruption through #UpRight4Nigeria Campaign.

The campaign was part of a project Strengthening Citizen Resistance Against Prevalence of Corruption (SCRAP-C), funded by UKAid and was aimed at reducing corruption through changing people’s perception and attitude.

In his opening remarks, the Founder and Executive Director of Centre, Mr David O. Onyaele, represented by the Senior Programme Officer of the Centre, Mr Kola Ogunbiyi, stated that citizens with disability were the worst hit as a result of prevalence of corruption in the society.

“This is because resources meant for healthcare, education, rehabilitation of citizens with disabilities are squandered by people in authority,” he said.

He said the centre was committed to strengthening the capacity of organizations of persons with disability in order to contribute their quota towards the fight against corruption in the country.

“This is the reason for the project which was launched in Abuja, Enugu, Akwa Ibom, and Kano. We are also taking it to Kaduna, Borno and Lagos states,” he added.

Speaking on behalf of the participants, the National Woman Leader of Joint National Associations of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD), Hajiya Rabi Yusuf Gezawa, thanked CCD for the sensitization and assured that the heads of organizations in attendance would take the message to their members.
