PDP will challenge the outcome of FCT council polls – Ayu

The National Chairman of Peoples’ Democratic Party, Dr Iyorchia Ayu, says despite the party’s victory in three Local government areas during last Saturday’s Federal Capital Territory polls, they will challenge the result in three other areas where All Progressives Congress (APC) were candidates declared winners.
Speaking during the commissioning of the Earnest Ikoli Media Complex in Yenagoa on Monday, as part of activities marking Governor Douye Diri’s second term in office, Ayu expressed delight that under his chairmanship, the party has recorded its first victory by winning Abuja Metropolitan, Kuje and Bwari council seats.

He said the party is determined to challenge the results in Gwagwalada, Abaji and Kwali were APC candidates were declared winners.
He also commended governors under PDP platform for what he described as superlative performance in their respective states, saying their performance has given Nigerians confidence to bring PDP back to power at the centre in 2023.
He said: “Under my chairmanship, I want to announce our first victory; we won the biggest prize which is Abuja Metropolitan, Kuje and Bwari. We are determined to challenge the results in other councils areas.
“I am very proud of Governor Diri, its takes a man of singular commitment to do so much in such a time. Many of you who have govern states will know that sometimes its takes a Governor one year before he finds his feet.
“But Governor Diri came and stood on the shoulders of giants and because the ground was well prepared, he hit the ground running. Today after only two years we are able to come here to commission several projects.
“This is how governors of PDP work, they work for the people, they don’t leave their states and go to Abuja as some of those other parties who abandoned their states and become chairmen of their party.
He continued, “Our (PDP) governors are elected with a mandate and that mandate is to work for the people that they governed, for them governance is service.
“I wish to thank you for giving service to the people of Bayelsa State and I want to thank all PDP governors across the country for making the party proud. It is your work that is giving confidence to the Nigerian people that PDP is coming back. After staying out of power for about six years, Nigerians now know that members of PDP including the governors are determined to serve this country and to unite this country.
“It is your work across the state that is making it possible for the people of the FCT to give us such marvelous victory at the weekend.”
Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State while presenting the project for commissioning, explained that as at the time he assumed office, the Radio Bayelsa station was totally damaged due to the fire incident and attacked by political thugs during the aftermath of Supreme Court judgement that awarded victory to PDP in the state.
