The Niger State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said it will not participate in Thursday’s local government elections in the state.
The party’s state chairman, Barrister Tanko Beji, said the state’s electoral commission did not comply with the extant laws and regulations for the conduct of elections.

The chairman, in a statement, said the PDP had filed a case in court to stop the Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSINEC) from going ahead with the election.
He said the matter was still pending in court.
Beji lamented that not all eligible voters in the state had been issued their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs), saying going ahead with Thursday’s LG elections would disenfranchise many eligible voters.
