The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State have tackled the All Progressives Congress (APC) over claims that the former is planning to stage a ‘fake’ defection ceremony against it.
Spokesperson of the APC in the state, Nkereuwem Enyongekere, had in a press release alleged that the PDP bought a tipper load of brooms to be burnt during the so-called defection charade.
Enyongekere said the PDP was taking advantage of the minor leadership controversy in the APC to stage the fake defection and give the erroneous impression that the APC was dead in Akwa Ibom.
But the PDP has said the party was not shocked by the wrangling in the APC as a house divided against itself cannot stand, and warned the party to desist from attributing their serial woes to them.
The State Publicity Secretary of PDP, Borono Bassey, who said the party considered the supposed defection as a prophecy, advised the party to sort out their internal problems instead.
The APC had accused a former member of the National Assembly and leader of a political pressure group, Akwa Ibom Democratic Forum (ADC), as the arrow head of the plan.
