A member of the House of Representatives under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sylvester Ogbaga (PDP, Ebonyi), has denied any plan by 23 members to ditch the party for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ogbaga, who stated this in a chat with a Daily Trust reporter on Wednesday, described it as “the work of detractors and plans to bring down vibrant politicians in the green chamber.”
“Please, ignore such rumors as they do not exist in any form. PDP remains strong and will be victorious in the 2019 general elections,” the three-term lawmaker and Chairman, House Committee on Industry said.
Daily Trust had on Tuesday gathered that about 23 members of the main opposition party, PDP, are on course to defect to the APC.
According to the report, the prospective defectors were alleged to be uncomfortable with the intrigues within the party in their states as well as manipulations by some PDP governors to “anoint new candidates” in place of the incumbent “seasoned legislators.”
States said to be affected by the planned defection include Gombe, Benue, Kogi, Enugu, Ekiti, Anambra, Cross River, and others whose lawmakers are at loggerheads with their governors.
To woo the aggrieved lawmakers, it was further gathered, the APC is said to be dangling automatic tickets, should they perfect their plans to cross over to the ruling party.
