The governorship candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP), Sadiq Aminu Wali and Bashir I. Bashir, an engineer, have expressed readiness to participate in the Media Trust debate for the 2023 elections.

The candidates, while receiving a delegation of the Media Trust Group’s team in their separate offices, described the debate as timely and a great platform through which Kano people would hear from them and make informed decisions.

Wali said the debate would be a great avenue for candidates to present their ideologies and the process they would govern the state and equally give the electorate the chance to score them and choose the best.

He said although most of the debates were conducted at the presidential level, the gubernatorial debate would educate people on why they should vote for a particular candidate.

Also speaking, Bashir said it was a good decision that a reputable media company was taking down the debate to the governorship candidates’ level as states remain significant and vital to the growth and development of the country.

Speaking earlier, the chairman of the Debate Planning Committee, Sulaiman A. Sulaiman, and the General Manager of Northern Operations, Abdullahi Mainasara, said the company decided to embark on the debate in service to democracy in Nigeria.

Sulaiman said the essence was to bring candidates together to connect on their vision, adding that it would be conducted in three states – Kano, Adamawa and Plateau.

Also, the Kano State command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), through the commandant, Adamu Idris Zakari, has assured of security at the venue.

Earlier, the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) have committed to the debate, while the state commands of the Nigeria Police and the Department of State Service (DSS) have also committed to ensuring security.
