The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said only the youths within the party could enhance the party’s chances of winning the 2019 general elections.
Inaugurating the PDP youth restructuring committee at the party’s national secretariat, in Abuja, yesterday Prince Uche Secondus, the PDP acting national chairman, said that for the party to reposition itself ahead of the elections, youths must be at the vanguard.
Secondus said the committee’s terms of reference included examining the party’s institutional and operational framework, level of youth’s inclusion in appointive and elective positions and recommending ways of expanding youths’ inclusion in governance.
He said: “The reformation of the PDP must start from the critical sector of the party, the youths. If we get it right with the youths, the 2019 general elections will be better than the 2015 elections. This is one of the strategic assignments the NWC have embarked upon. The next will be the women.”
Abdullahi Maibasira, the national youth leader of the party, said that “reform within the party is a political necessity,” adding that the youths would right the wrongs and win the 2019 general elections.
Chairman of the committee, Tony Nwodu, said the committee would do it best in line with its terms of reference.
